It\npromotes the development and maintenance of gonadal tissues\nwhich synthetise and secret the steroid hormones. In females,\nFSH is responsible for the ovum maturation during the\nmenstrual cycle. The level of FSH is controlled through a\nnegative feed-back mechanism by estradiol and progesterone.\nThe determination of FSH in conjunction with LH is useful in\ndetecting amenorrhea or anovulatory menstrual cycles.\nFurthermore, FSH can be used in diagnosis of polycystic ovary\nsyndrome, psychogenic amenorrhea, pituitary tumors and\nectopic tumor production. Follow-up of patients with\nchoriocarcinoma and hydatidiform mole. In males, FSH\nstimulates the production of sperm and testosterone. FSH and\nLH measurement in males are useful in detection of primary\nand secondary testicular failures. FSH values are up to 15 IU\/L\nfor adult males and 200 IU\/L for post menopausal females.\nMenstruating females have a mid cycle peak.\nThe FSH-CHECK-1 is a rapid quantitative assay for the\nspecific detection of FSH in whole blood, plasma and serum\nsamples.\nAs the test sample flows through the absorbent device, the\nlabelled antibody-dye conjugate binds to the FSH forming an\nantibody-antigen complex. This complex binds to the anti FSH\nantibody in the reaction zone (T) and produces a pink-rose\ncoloured band. In the absence of FSH, there is no line in the\nreaction zone (T). The mixture continues to flow through the\nabsorbent device past the reactive zone (T) and control zone\n(C).
