In man, myoglobin is\none of the major proteins found in the myocardium and therefore it is\nnot surprising that injury to cardiac muscle results in the release of\nmyoglobin into the bloodstream (2, 3).\nNormal levels in human serum are about 60-80 ng\/mL with elevations\nas high as 1,500 ng\/mL seen in patients with acute myocardial\ninfarction (AMI). Consequently, myoglobin measurements are\nvaluable indications in the early diagnosis of AMI as myoglobin has\nbeen reported to rise within 4 hours of the onset of symptoms (4, 5,\n6). The MGL-CHECK-1 is a rapid quantitative assay for the detection\nof human myoglobin in serum, plasma or whole blood.\nThe method employs a unique combination of monoclonal-dye\nconjugate and polyclonal solid phase antibodies to identify myoglobin\nin the test samples with a high degree of specificity.\nAs the sample flows through the absorbent device, the labelled\nantibody-dye conjugate binds to the myoglobin forming an antibody\nantigen complex. This complex binds to the anti-myoglobin antibody\nin the reaction zone (T) and produces a pink-rose colour band. In the\nabsence of myoglobin, there is no line in the reaction zone (T). The\nmixture continues flowing through the absorbent device past the\nreactive zone (T) and control zone (C).
