High levels can be\ndetected after the eighth week of pregnancy and continue until\nterm. After birth, prolactin levels return to normal within three\nweeks in the absence of breast feeding (3, 4). Normal females\nshow prolactin levels only slightly higher than males (2, 3).\nAbnormally high levels of hPRL are associated with infertility\nin men and women, male impotence and primary\nhypothyroidism.\nThe PROLAC-CHECK-1 is a rapid, quantitative assay for the\ndetection of human prolactin in whole blood, serum and\nplasma samples. The method employs a unique combination of\nmonoclonal-dye conjugate and polyclonal-solid phase\nantibodies to identify prolactin in the test samples selectively\nwith a high degree of specificity.\nAs the test sample flows through the absorbent device, the\nlabelled antibody-dye conjugate binds to the prolactin forming\nan antibody-antigen complex. This complex binds to the anti-\nprolactin antibody in the reaction zone (T) and produces a\nrose-pink coloured band. In the absence of prolactin, there is\nno line in the reaction zone (T). The mixture continues flowing\nthrough the absorbent device, past the reaction zone (T) and\ncontrol zone (C).
